    Ishanya Anthapur:
Welcome to AI Powered Caregiving, a new weekly podcast sharing real stories and challenges from the front lines of age tech innovation.

I’m Ishanya Anthapur, your host from Zemplee. At Zemplee, we’re building AI-powered remote monitoring solutions that help caregivers stay connected to older adults—so care teams can be proactive, families feel reassured, and aging can happen with dignity.

Today, I’m excited to introduce two incredible leaders in the space:
Aparna Pujar, Founder and CEO of Zemplee, and
Majd Alwan, Founder and CEO of Alwan AI Vantage.

Aparna, let’s start with you. Tell us a little about yourself.

Aparna’s Story & The Vision Behind Zemplee

    Aparna Pujar:
Thanks, Ishanya. I’m really excited to be here.

I started Zemplee because I became a remote caregiver for my aging parents. Zemplee has truly been a labor of love. Through this journey, I’ve come to believe that the future of caregiving won’t be shaped by one idea, one person, one technology, or one company. It will be shaped by shared learnings.

That’s why this podcast exists. We want to build a community of operators, clinicians, caregivers, family members, and experts like Majd Alwan—so we can collectively drive the next generation of AI-powered caregiving.

There’s so much happening in this space, and we need thoughtful conversations to help people understand what it all means.

Majd’s Background & The Launch of Alwan AI Vantage

    Ishanya:
Majd, tell us about your background and why you founded Alwan AI Vantage.

    Majd Alwan:
I’m an engineer by training. Earlier in my career, I developed passive monitoring technologies for older adults at the University of Virginia, where I co-founded a company focused on aging technologies.

Later, I was recruited to lead LeadingAge—the national association of nonprofit aging services providers—as Senior Vice President of Technology and Business Strategy. I led the Center for Aging Services Technologies, where our mission was to help aging service providers understand, plan for, select, and implement technologies that improve quality of care and quality of life, while reducing caregiver burden.

In 2024, we saw an explosion of AI-powered tools. Aging service providers simply don’t have the bandwidth to evaluate all the differences and nuances between these innovations.

So I founded Alwan AI Vantage to continue that mission: helping providers understand what’s real, what creates impact, and how to select the right AI tools for their care setting and business model.

AI in Senior Care: What’s Happening Now?

    Ishanya:
Majd, what’s your take on what’s happening with AI in senior care as we move into 2026?

    Majd Alwan:
We’re seeing AI tools deployed across multiple areas.

First, AI-powered marketing and referral tools are helping senior living communities address their number one concern: occupancy.

Second, AI is being used in HR—to help identify the right candidates, improve retention, and reduce turnover. The staffing crisis continues to plague the aging services sector, and these tools can help address it.

Third, we’re seeing AI-powered monitoring solutions, including sensors and biometric tracking, to monitor activities and behaviors, manage chronic conditions, and enable more proactive care and preventative interventions.

Fall detection and prevention technologies are also advancing—using sensors, cameras, and predictive analytics based on electronic health record data to detect and prevent future falls.

AI is being applied across operations, workforce, and clinical care.

    Zemplee’s Unique Perspective

    Ishanya:
Aparna, what makes Zemplee’s perspective unique? Why launch this podcast now?

    Aparna Pujar:
Zemplee was founded in 2019, and over the past five years, we’ve seen a huge explosion of AI-powered tools in the industry.

But at the center of all this innovation is one person: the older adult we’re trying to serve.

AI gives us the opportunity to deliver person-centered, tech-enabled care that is highly customizable. No two people are alike, and care must adapt to individual needs on a daily basis.

We also see a major opportunity in integrating across care settings. Healthcare has traditionally been siloed. But older adults transition between hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, and home settings.

If AI can provide a unified intelligence layer across these silos, we can remove friction, streamline transitions, and make caregivers’ jobs easier.

At Zemplee, we believe AI should be humane—empowering both care seekers and caregivers.

    Why These Conversations Matter

    Ishanya:
Why is it important to have open conversations about AI in senior care?

    Aparna Pujar:
The industry is evolving rapidly, and there’s a risk of making suboptimal decisions.

There are also concerns about AI being intrusive or replacing jobs. We need open, honest conversations about how to use AI responsibly and effectively.

Our goal with this podcast is to build clarity and confidence—sharing practical insights about what’s working and what isn’t.

    Ishanya:
    Majd, your thoughts?

    Majd Alwan:
    Awareness and education are critical.

AI is not here to replace caregivers—especially in aging services, which is a high-touch, human-first industry.

AI is a tool. Used correctly, it helps people work better, faster, and with less stress.

Aging service providers operate on thin margins. They cannot afford to invest in the wrong tools. Our role is to guide them toward the right solutions.

    Closing Thoughts

    Ishanya Anthapur:
    I love that perspective.

The heart of this podcast is shared learning—breaking down silos, democratizing access to information, and helping caregivers and providers make informed decisions.

Thank you, Aparna. Thank you, Majd. I’m excited for what’s ahead.

And to our listeners—this is just the beginning. We look forward to diving deeper into AI, senior care, and the future of aging services in upcoming episodes.
